Our History
Founded in 1989 as New England’s first LGBTQ+ hockey club, Boston Pride Hockey began with a small group of players united by a shared goal: competing in the Vancouver Gay Games—and creating space for themselves in a sport that didn’t always make room for them.
More than three decades later, that same spirit continues to drive BPH today. What started as a single team has grown into a vibrant, 450+ member community, offering year-round programming including our Inclusive Hockey League (IHL), weekly pickup skates, skills sessions, and tournament play across North America. We welcome players of all backgrounds and experience levels, united by a shared commitment to inclusion, respect, and love of the game.
BPH has also evolved beyond the rink. In recent years, we’ve hosted marquee events like Pride Cup and built meaningful partnerships with organizations including the Boston Bruins, TD Bank, the Boston Fleet, and the NHL—expanding our visibility and impact while advocating for greater inclusion in hockey at every level.
Today, we carry forward the legacy of those who paved the way—not just by creating space, but by continuing to grow it.
