Team Trans is an international community of trans and nonbinary hockey players united by a shared love of the game.
History
BPH and Team Trans share a history that goes back to Team Trans’s very beginning. In 2019, BPH helped co-found and incubate Team Trans within our nonprofit organization, creating a dedicated opportunity for trans and nonbinary hockey players to come together from across the United States and Canada. That November, players gathered in Boston and took the ice as Team Trans for the first time, launching a community that has since grown far beyond that inaugural weekend.
Today, Team Trans is a thriving organization and hockey community of its own, connecting trans and nonbinary players across North America and beyond through tournaments, events, and opportunities to play together. BPH is proud to have played a role in Team Trans’s beginnings and to have continued supporting and partnering with the organization as it has grown.
Our Commitment
BPH believes unequivocally that trans and nonbinary athletes belong in hockey and in sports. For us, that commitment means more than saying it. It means creating opportunities to play, supporting organizations like Team Trans, bringing communities together, and ensuring trans and nonbinary athletes have spaces where they can compete, connect, and enjoy the game.
We were proud to help Team Trans get its start in Boston in 2019. We are even prouder to see what its community has built since—and we remain committed to standing alongside trans and nonbinary athletes for the years ahead.
The Friendship Series
At the heart of that relationship is the BPH x Team Trans Friendship Series, which brings our communities together for hockey both with and against one another.
In August 2026, Team Trans returned to Boston for our largest Friendship Series yet. More than 100 players and hundreds of spectators and guests came together for a weekend that included six games at Warrior Ice Arena across novice, intermediate, and advanced skill levels. BPH and Team Trans faced off in friendly matchups before mixing rosters and sharing the ice as teammates, with additional skills sessions, pick-up hockey, and social events extending the weekend beyond the games themselves.
Seven years after Team Trans first took the ice in Boston, the 2026 Friendship Series reflected just how much the community has grown—and reaffirmed why this relationship remains so important to BPH.
